My last event of the season brought me to a for me new destination. La Torche in France. It was a 12 hour drive to get there but all went perfect. To stay comfortable for the 2 weeks on the French coast, we rented a chalet on Camping La Torche . Temperatures were cold, but most days we had sun to warm us Islandboyz up a little.
A great time with my travel-buddies Taty Frans and Aldair Soliano
Info about La Torche :
Taty Frans and myself represented Bonaire at this event.
The forecast was right and we waited for wind. Luckily the waves were present and we had a blast surfing !!
The waiting-game continued and a wave-tow in competition was organized . 12 riders had registered and the top 4 would go to the final. Each rider were given 2 attempts with the best move counting. The air-flaka brought me into the final together with Dieter van der Eijken, Leon Jamaer and Sarah-Quita Offringa.
On day 6 of the event the final was held. Each finalist had 3 attempts with the best 2 counting. The paso, a crash and the culo 540 were not enough to beat Dieter van der Eyken who threw a table top forward and a stalled pasko.
Results : Left-Right Leon Jamaer in 3rd , Dieter in first and myself in 2nd place !!
Unfortunately no result for the main competition in the wave- and slalom-discipline. The wave-fleet still has 1 event on Maui but for the slalom-fleet this was the last competition of the year and a new PWA-Worldchampion Slalom was crowned in La Torche ! A huge congrats to Matteo Iachino from Italy !!
That was it !! That was the 2016 season for me. It was a great season and very happy with my achievements.
Freestyle : Vice-Worldchampion
Slalom : 35th place overall
Wave : a start and need some more practice
Tow-in : a 2nd and a 3rd place.
All motivation to go bigger next year !!
