 July 9-12, 2014

Hey, here I am with a new story about my adventure on Lanzarote.

On June 29th I flew with KLM to Amsterdam, spent a day with my aunt Pascale and continued my trip with Transavia via Las Palmas to Lanzarote. It was the first time for me to visit this Island. Anxton Otaegui from the Pro Center picked me up from the airport and brought me to the hotel where Aron , Oscar and Petra Etmon already were waiting for me. Sands Beach Hotel was hosting all the riders of the event. A perfect hotel, near the beach and their hospitality is great !! A new windsurfing adventure could begin !!

In the days before the event started I could train a lot and get used to the Canary wavy conditions. Perfect wind was blowing and the waves were fantastic. Other riders arrived on Lanzarote aswell and we could prepare for the second EFPT-event of 2014.

In the late afternoon registration took place so the competition could start early the next morning.

July 9th

Wind-predictions were not in our favour, overcast with clouds messed up the local wind systhem. Skippersmeeting was at 8.00, and we waited for the wind until 3 pm. The wind seemed to pickup and the first heat could start. With the biggest gear the 4 riders of Heat 1 went out, but it became obvious quite quickly that it would not be sufficient to run a fair competition and the heat was cancelled.

Even the locals pointed out that they never seen a forcast like this in July. This was frustrating but with all the riders we had lots of fun on the beach.

July 10th and Day 2 of the EFPT-competition:

No wind this day either, but a jet-ski was arranged for a tow-in practice. If windconditions would not improve a tow-in contest would be held the last 2 days.

I did not go for a training-session but went out with my Team-mate Dieter van der Eyken and his parents to Playa Famara to do some wave-surfing. It was fun !!

Day-3 , No wind does not have to be a problem, TOW-IN competition coming up !! Before lunch Fleet 1 started and a big crowd gathered on the beach to watch the show.

Out of the 10 riders, Adam Sims, Hugo de Sousa, Dieter van der Eyken, Tonky Frans and Mattia Fabrizi were the top 5 to enter the final on the last day of the competition.

After lunch it was my turn in Fleet 2. I scored 50,5 points with a fast burner 900.

Day 4/ June 12th.

After the daily skippersmeeting it seemed around luchtime that the wind would pick-up and we could start the Freestyle competition on the last day of the event. But again the first heat was cancelled. The competitors had to pump themselves into the moves, the wind direction changed every minute, conditions were not sufficient.

At 4.30 the Tow-in final started. My tricks did not go as planned. I tried to do a double culo, almost pulled it , but had a spin-out just before lifting the board for the first rotation and did not have enough speed to land a clean second rotation.

I ended in 7th place.

Congratulations to Tonky Frans (1st), Steven van Broeckhoven (2nd) and Dieter van der Eyken in 3rd place !!!

Although we had no wind in the past 4 competitiondays, I must say, the event and the atmosphere on the beach was great. The organisation by Anxton Otaegui of the Pro Center , the EFPT-crew and Sands Beach Hotel were outstanding and I’m looking forward to come back next year. Thanks guys !! Also I want to thank Kuma Movie/ Ayupic  and Eric Bellande for taking great pictures !!

I will spent a few more days here on Lanzarote with Aron Etmon and Dieter van der Eyken and their family before taking the ferry to Fuerteventura.

Getting ready for yet another windsurf-event;

PWA Fuerteventura at Sotavento Beach. This year I will compete in Freestyle- and in Slalom aswell.
