On October 23rd it was time again to cross the Atlantic for the fifth, but also the last time in 2014. 3 PWA-, 2 EFPT- and 1 IFCA-event(s) I already scratched from my to do list and now on my way to France for the final EFPT-event of 2014.
This time I did not see only the airport and the beach but made a stop in The Netherlands to meet my team-mate Dieter van der Eyken. We planned to sail a few days at Brouwersdam before driving through France to Six Four Plages. At Brouwersdam I met some friends and we had a great time. Unfortunately The Netherlands gave us no wind, so we headed with the bus fully-packed into the South direction. I’ve never been to France and the road-trip was a great experience.

Pics made by Dieter van der Eyken, sightseeing a little en France 😉
Once arrived on Brutal Beach, the registration took place, and what we already found out on wind-guru, the forecast was really bad for the days the event was organised. But the organisation had planned a lot of fun things on the beach so lots of activities to do.
The event-site was set up very nice and we had a lot of fun.
On thursday the 30st, we had the trials for the TOWIN competition.
My equipment used : Starboard Flare 2015 /91l and the Severne Freek 2015/ 4.8
On Friday the 31st, the qualifications for the final, and I was glad to hear that I was one of the top 5 riders in my fleet who advanced into the final the next day.
Saturday started with a bootcamp on the beach, after that a explanation of the towinn moves for all the spectators on the beach and at 3pm the final of the towinn competition.
All 10 riders had 3 attempts. My first attempt didn’t go as planned but in the second and third I could land a clean double funnel and a culo-diablo.
Although my last 2 moves went very well I was suprised to be announced in 2nd place of the towinn competition here on Brutal Beach, Six Four Plages. Great feeling !!
1st Bosson, 2nd myself and 3rd Fabrizi
Most riders don’t train for tow-inn, so one has to take the moment when one is hanging behind the jet-ski. (or winch on Sylt, haha 😉 ).
The beach was crowed during the award ceremony and there was a great ambiance. I want to thank the EFPT- , EFE- and local organisation for the great time I had in Six Four Plages. Also my sponsors Starboard , Severne Sails, my team-mate and friends Dieter & Jolanda and family for their hospitality, my fan-club at home 😉 and my followers on facebook.
The season 2014 has come to and end. The last 2 days I was busy sailing in The Netherlands with Dieter ( sorry no pics ) and now I’m back home on Bonaire again. In the coming months I will be training hard for the new season. Maybe a trip to Brasil in December to gain more experience on a new destination.
The 2014 season was great and managed to achieve my goal (becoming top 5 ) > PWA Freestyle 4th place and EFPT 5th place < . Also I had some great slalom-experiences on the Azores, Fuerteventura and Turkey.
Stay tuned via my facebook-page for the latest news .
Thanks and cheers
