In 2015 I participated in this event for the first time, I could not finish than due to a broken outhaul, in 2016 I could take the win with a formula-board and this year I took the challenge to enter this 100-120km race… foiling.
I arrived on June 9th for the registration as the race started with a 7 am skippersmeeting on Saturday June 10th. Gear was ready, studied the buyons, tides and the forecast and decided to give it a go on the JP-AUSTRALIA Hydrofoil 135-board , Lokefoil and SEVERNE SAILS Reflex8 8.6 . Packed with a mandatory flare, 5m rope, life vest I was ready to take on this challenge. Winds between 10-18 knots
At 8.40… 330 catamarans started the race
The 36 windsurfers went on the water 10 minutes after.

In the beginning it was hard to find a good course between the many boats, but as soon as I rounded the north of the island the fleet was a little spread and together with 3 other windsurfers in the lead we headed to the east of Texel and went South again.
At the south-west of the island, some 45 minutes before the finish I was in first place, but suffered from cramps and got really exhausted but could keep ahead of Dennis Littel in 2nd place.
With the finish in sight I unfortunately crashed due to the swell, a bit overpowered and the cramps in my calfs and forearms. Some trouble to get back on the foil quickly and Dennis past by me and finished 6 minutes ahead of me.
The beach was crowded and my friend Erik , and family were waiting for me and supplied me with the much needed water . A little disappointed that the win was very near I was happy and proud that I did it again. It took me 3 Hours and 9 minutes to round the island. A fourth finish overall counting the catamarans aswell .
(First Catamaran 2Hrs57min)
- Dennis Littel NED13 – 3Hrs3min on Formula
- Myself – 3Hrs9min on Hydrofoil
- Adriaan van Rijsselberghe NED2 -3Hrs15min on Slalom
(Last Windsurfer 4Hrs59min)
